SparkCon: The Next Wave of Innovation
I. Details of the Event
SparkCon: The Next Wave of Innovation was held on December 14, 2025 at the SMC Central Convention Center in Olongapo City. The event featured five speakers who discussed different topics that are highly relevant to the current IT industry.
The sessions covered cybersecurity practices, password management, blockchain technology, UI and UX design principles, and cloud services using Microsoft Azure. Sir Mark Estopace mentioned that although the discussion focused on Microsoft Azure, the concepts and practices shared can also be applied to other cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform. The seminar ended with a panel discussion where the speakers shared their insights and answered questions from the delegates, which made the event more interactive and engaging.
II. Reflection on the Webinar/Activity (Learnings Gained)
SparkCon provided a valuable opportunity to gain a broad understanding of several in-demand areas in the IT field. The theme, “The Next Wave of Innovation,” was clearly reflected in the topics discussed, which ranged from emerging technologies like blockchain to essential services such as cloud computing.
One of the sessions that stood out to me the most was the discussion on cybersecurity and password management led by Sir Allen Pineda. This session was very engaging because it focused on everyday digital habits that many people often overlook. I realized that using the same password across multiple accounts, which many of us do, is extremely risky if one account becomes compromised. Sir Allen emphasized the importance of changing passwords regularly and creating strong passwords that are difficult to guess but still easy to remember.
He shared a creative technique of forming passwords using acronyms from song lyrics. For example, the line “Hindi Na Makalaya, Dinadalaw Mo Ko Bawat Gabi” can be turned into the password HNMDMKBG, which can still be customized further. This approach made cybersecurity feel more practical and approachable, making it easier for us to apply stronger security practices in our daily lives.
Another session I found very engaging was the UI and UX design discussion by Mr. Arjohn Capucion, a product manager and designer. His passion for design was very evident, and his enthusiasm made the session enjoyable. He discussed the core principles of UI and UX design and explained how modern design has evolved toward simplicity and minimalism. What impressed me most was how he handled the question and answer portion. His responses were detailed, thoughtful, and open, highlighting the importance of communication skills in design roles. This reminded me that being a good designer is not just about using tools like Figma, but also about understanding users and clearly communicating ideas, which is something I want to improve as I pursue UI development.
Another impactful session was led by Mr. Mark Angelo Santonil, who talked about handling job application rejections. This topic was very relevant, especially for graduating students preparing to enter the workforce. He shared that he experienced rejection in most of his job applications and explained that rejection is not always a reflection of one’s abilities. Instead, it often happens because companies are looking for very specific qualifications. He also discussed how many recruiters now use AI-based systems that scan resumes based on keywords. This perspective helped me see rejection as part of the system rather than a personal failure, which gave me a healthier mindset as I prepare for employment.
III. Reflections on Possibilities on Implementing Some of the Webinar Input on a Practical Level (Practical Application of Learnings)
The lessons from SparkCon will greatly influence how I approach my final year and prepare for future employment. The sessions on blockchain and Microsoft Azure emphasized the importance of exploring emerging technologies early. Knowing that many platforms offer free tiers for students motivates me to gain hands-on experience, which I can apply to my academic and personal projects.
One important takeaway from the panel discussion was the mindset shared by the speakers. Mr. Arjohn’s engaging presentation style showed how essential communication and confidence are for IT professionals. I plan to apply this by being more interactive and confident when presenting my own work.
Mr. Mark Angelo’s advice on dealing with rejections will also guide me as I prepare for my upcoming OJT applications. Viewing job applications as a numbers game where rejection is normal will help me avoid unnecessary self-doubt. This mindset will encourage me to apply to more opportunities, continuously improve my skills, and increase my chances of finding the right company
IV. Positive Feedback on the Event/Organization
The organizers deserve recognition for successfully hosting SparkCon. Their effort in inviting knowledgeable speakers and choosing relevant topics made the seminar both informative and meaningful. The event was well-organized overall and provided valuable insights for students preparing to enter the IT industry.
V. Suggestions for Improvements to be Made/Considered for Future Activities
Although the seminar was very informative and conveniently held in Olongapo City, there are a few areas that could be improved. Some topics could benefit from deeper discussions, as certain parts were limited to surface-level concepts that many participants were already familiar with.
Additionally, the scheduling and promotion of the event could be improved. The event date was moved several times, which may have contributed to the number of empty seats despite many registered participants. Finalizing the schedule before promoting the event could help improve attendance and coordination for future seminars.
